The GLUKON® test pen enables quick and easy verification of the substrate's wettability and helps identify surface defects.

The goal is to achieve a specific surface tension of the material to successfully carry out subsequent processing steps. Surface tension values provide important information about the cleanliness or contamination of a surface or material. A higher surface tension is generally assumed to indicate a cleaner surface. The GLUKON® test pen can be used to determine the wettability (also known as surface energy) of a material's surface.

The surface energy (OFE) of each solid in its pure state is unique. However, it is reduced by impurities during the manufacturing and storage processes. The OFE plays a crucial role in many technical processes, such as bonding, painting, and printing. It is essential for the adhesion and wetting of the material.

The OFE is expressed in mN/m (English: dynes/cm) and can be represented by using test inks according to DIN 53364/ISO 8296 or other compositions.

The GLUKON® test ink pen is suitable for testing metals and glass, including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper. It is also suitable for testing plastic surfaces and thermoplastic materials such as HPL, ABS, and rigid PVC.

The GLUKON® test pen is suitable for testing the bondability of a wide variety of materials with GLUKON® adhesives. These include: metals, glass, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, HPL, decorative chipboard, and most plastic surfaces, such as ABS and rigid PVC.

The GLUKON® test pen allows for a quick and easy check of the substrate's wettability. The goal is to confirm the minimum surface tension of 38 mN/m required for bonding with GLUKON® adhesives. Surface tension values provide important information about the cleanliness or contamination of a surface or material. A higher surface tension is generally assumed to indicate a cleaner surface. Using the GLUKON® test pen, the wettability (also known as surface energy) of a material's surface can be determined.

The surface tensile strength (OFE) plays an important role in many technical processes such as bonding, painting, and printing. It is crucial for the adhesion and wetting of the material. OFE is expressed in mN/m (dynes/cm).

Shelf Life of the Test Ink Pen
The shelf life depends primarily on the frequency of use. Avoid contamination of the pens. We recommend using the test ink within 3–6 months. Unopened, it has a shelf life of 12 months.

Observation Time
The observation time is crucial. Events occurring more than 2 seconds after applying the ink line must not be included in the evaluation of the results! (see images below)

Even when using test ink, we always recommend conducting a preliminary bonding test of your materials. Please refer to the technical data sheets and adhesive recommendations of the respective material manufacturers. It is essential to test all materials to be bonded before production begins. It is the processor's responsibility to verify that the selected GLUKON® adhesive is suitable for the specific application.

Application examples

If the ink remains as a line on the solid for 2 seconds, then the surface tension of the surface/solid is equal to or greater than that of the ink. The material is READY for bonding with GLUKON® adhesives.
If the ink contracts and forms beads within 2 seconds, the surface tension of the solid is lower than that of the ink. The material is NOT READY for bonding with GLUKON® adhesives.
